As I sit down and write this introduction to the sale of the first part of the Camelback Collection of Quality US Stamps I am overcome with joy, the same joy our consignor had when he carefully built his collection stamp by stamp. It is truly a collector’s collection where each stamp was sought out individually, carefully examined before being considered worthy of being included in the collection. Over the years his discerning eye for perfection and beauty only improved as scarce and rare issues were added.
The first part of the collection offered here is primarily the used 20th century issues. Enjoy the many beautiful examples offered, as for instance the 1851 1c type III and type IIIa, or the wonderful 1855 10c type I corner margin single. A superb 1858 5c type I Brick Red, numerous choice singles from the 1861-67 issues, a great group of 1869 issues, lovely early grilled bank notes. From late bank note issues the collection changes over from used to mint featuring amazing examples of the 1894-95 First Bureau issues high values.
Virtually every stamp in this part of the collection is furnished with a certificate either from the time of purchase or very recently. Extension for stamps with certificates older than 5 years will be granted as is customary in the auction trade, however with one very notable condition which applies to the Camelback Collection lots only. If a stamp has a prior certificate from the Philatelic Foundation it would have to be submitted again to the Philatelic Foundation along with a copy of the first certificate. The same rule applies for a stamp a with prior certificate from the PSE, in which case the stamp would have to be submitted to the PSE along with a copy of the first certificate. All lots offered without reserve. Live bidding will start at 1 p.m. EDT on Saturday, September 21, 2024, thru Stamp Auction Network. Lots sold in this sale are subject to a 12½% buyer’s premium.
